Singapore Metabolic Bone Disease Symposium and the International Osteoporosis Foundation Skeletal Rare Disorders Course 2019
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Singapore for the 1st Singapore Bone Metabolic Disease Symposium and the International Osteoporosis Foundation Skeletal Rare Disorders Course that will be held on November 9 and 10 2019 at the beautiful and centrally located One Farrer Hotel. This is the first time that such a meeting and course is being organized in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The Skeletal Rare Disorders Course is an initiative of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) aimed at dissemination of knowledge and increasing awareness about the genetic disorders involving skeletal development, growth and homeostasis such as Calcium Sensing Receptor Disorders, Disorders of Phosphate homeostasis, Hypophosphatasia, Fibrous Dysplasia etc. The identification and characterization of and development of treatments for some of these fascinating disorders have paved the way in fact for the discovery of new therapeutic modalities for even osteoporosis and has led to the move away from serendipitous pharmacology to more targeted therapy for it. The course is conducted by expert faculty from the Skeletal Disorders Working Group of the Council of Scientific Advisors of the IOF. Previous iterations of the course have been held successfully in Geneva, St Petersburg and Tel Aviv and we are sure that it will be received very well in this part of the world also.
Osteoporosis is slowly gaining attention in the Asia Pacific region. However, other metabolic bone diseases such as parathyroid disorders, multiple myeloma, secondary osteoporosis, osteoporosis in children, pregnancy and lactation etc hardly get the attention they deserve. These disorders as well as very currently relevant topics such as new therapeutic modalities for osteoporosis, discussions on the side effects associated with anti- osteoporosis therapies etcetera will take centre stage at the Bone Metabolic Disease Symposium.
All the speakers for this meeting are highly regarded in their area of expertise and were also chosen because they are skilled lecturers. It would be thus of utmost benefit to the physician who desires to have the latest and most cutting-edge knowledge in this field to attend both the course and symposium.
The core scientific programme on both days consists of several didactic lectures. There will also be a session each day devoted to an interactive discussion of challenging metabolic bone disorder cases helmed by the expert faculty. Specialist trainees are encouraged to present case reports to the conference secretariat by July 15 2019. Selected cases will be chosen for presentation at this session. There will also be the opportunity to present your cases at poster presentation sessions on both days.
Singapore offers a modern, beautiful and conducive setting for international conferences. We hope that you will also take the opportunity to explore its many attractions and to savour the gastronomic delights it is famous for!
Thank you for your participation. My committee and I will do our best to ensure that this meeting is a memorable and enriching experience for you.
